3-D television could be coming to your home later this year — if you’ve got the cash, the special glasses and the yearning to see footballs and aliens hurtling out of your TV screen and into your living room.
“It’s a brave new world, this stuff,” said Scott Yoder, a salesman at WeeBee Audio-Video on Manheim Pike. “The TVs you hang on the wall — this stuff was just the Jetsons not that many years ago, and now it’s a reality.”
The cutting edge 3-D TVs are generating huge buzz at the Consumer Electronics Show being held in Las Vegas this week.

Calculating the Fuse Size

A common car audio question I get is, “What size should my fuse be?”. This is almost always in regards to the main power fuse. The most important component you’ll install in a car audio system. This is the fuse that protects the system and your vehicle and is located within inches of the battery. Choosing a fuse size that is too large will not provide adequate protection and choosing one that is too small will cause a lot of blown fuses. Location, Current Handling, Fuse Type, and Fuse Size are guidelines that you need to know when locating and sizing the main power fuse for your car audio system.

Figuring out Power Wire Size

Power wire required for Amplifiers depends on how much current the Amplifier can pull. Getting educated on power wire is very important because, the incorrect power wire can cause harm to the Amplifier, the power wire itself, and even more severely, the car. As Blu-ray movies rapidly replace traditional DVD’s on the shelves of local video stores consumers find themselves wondering what all the hype is about.  Blu-ray offers a significant step forward in picture quality and to many peoples surprise it also offers a huge improvement in sound quality as well.  The new Blu-ray players also offer us the ability to play our older DVD’s as well as music CD’s.  So you can replace several different pieces of equipment with a new Blu-Ray player that produces stunning high definition images and sounds!

In-wall speakers have come a long way in the past few years, today’s in-wall speakers can provide a sonic experience that rivals the very best offerings of its floor-standing and bookshelf counterparts. In-wall speakers look great, cost less, and most importantly they fit into the look of your home seamlessly. When choosing an in-wall speaker you first want to make sure that the wall or ceiling area you are looking at will accommodate the installation of an in-wall speaker. If you are concerned about installation the best thing to do is call and schedule a free consultation. Once you have determined that in-wall speakers will fit a certain area of your home, the next step is to choose a performance level that makes sense for your application. In areas where the sound will be a focus, such as a theater area or a living room, a higher fidelity speaker should be used; in areas where the sound will be more in the background a more basic in-wall will likely suffice.

Today’s high definition video and audio signals are very demanding and require a TV to have more powerful processors then ever before. That’s one place that many manufacturers will cut corners to save money; your TV can be 1080p and 600 hertz but if there isn’t a great processor in there to handle all that work, the performance is going to suffer. It is also important to have a TV that can grow with you as you expand your home theater system. If you’re buying something that’s a leftover or a B-stock from a warehouse club or a website you may be surprised to find that the product you are purchasing is a leftover and a refurbished unit. The best thing to do is to ask an audio video professional about the models you are interested in.

How do I match a sub to the amp I have?

You need a few pieces of information to correctly match a sub to a amp. First thing you need is to know the ohm load of the woofer so you can correctly match them. The reason they need to match is because the resistance is crucial to making sure you do not blow the amp or woofer. Second thing you need to know is the RMS wattage power the amp puts out at each ohm load.
When the OHM load and RMS wattage required are equal to the amp then you have found a good match.

What kind of sub box do I want?

There are many kinds of sub boxes that you can choose from. Choosing a sub box comes down to 4 key factors.

-Woofer size
-Type of music you listen to
-Space available in the vehicle
-Amount of bass enhancement you desire

Genres such as country or rock sound better in a sealed box. Genres such as pop and rap sound better in a ported box. If you desire more bass then a ported box offers a difference of 3dbs in sound.

Firmware Options

One of the most powerful features available to a customer is the availability to have and use firmware upgrades. Fortunately, most current Yamaha receivers have the ability to take a firmware upgrade. Firmware upgrades can help refine the user experience by adding new features or by improving the functionality of a product.

Basically, for Yamaha receivers, there are three ways a firmware upgrade can be completed by the end user. First, there is an update over the ethernet connection of network capable receivers. Second, there is updating through the USB connection on some receivers. Finally, there is updating the receiver through a digital audio input in the form of a .WAV file.

In each case, the firmware will be downloaded from Yamaha’s web site and can be found at each product’s individual page under the “downloads’ tab. For networked receivers, the update can be downloaded from the receiver directly from Yamaha’s servers.

Before installing any firmware updates, please consult your manual for detailed instructions on how to apply the firmware. When the firmware is downloaded from the Yamaha web site, it is automatically packaged with the instructions on how to apply it.

Firmware Update 2009

Updating your firmware can be an easy way to add functionality and stability to any product. Currently, there are two available updates for our receivers beginning with the RX-V465.

The first is the J030 update, which allows a customer to assign an analog audio input to the component video inputs, allowing for more flexibility in installation. The second firmware version is the K032, which offers the J030 functionality plus the ability to assign a digital audio connection to an HDMI input, the ability to assign an analog audio input to an HDMI input, and the ability to assign the extra digital audio inputs to the component video inputs. These firmware updates effectively give the customer the choice to use inputs as they wish. Click here to go to the download page (links are located on the bottom of the page).
